Explanation of Open Division COREs

In order to submit a CORE all players must have completed registration. Registration is not complete until payment has been made via PayPal and any necessary waivers are received by WUDi for under 18yr-old players. All COREs must be submitted within 24 hours of the close of registration. (NO EXCEPTIONS). One member of the CORE must act as the captain, and be responsible for the regular captain duties, such as bringing cones, calling subs, emailing teammates about upcoming games, etc...

The WUDi Board will review all CORE submissions. Depending upon how many COREs are submitted, how large they each are in number, and how much parity exists amongst them WUDi will either host a draft or assign players on a “hat” basis to round out the teams.

In the event of a draft, all players not assigned to a CORE will be considered “draftable” with the following restrictions:

  • Teams will be drafted with our normal 2 part draft system, Part one is a 9 pick draft in which you must pick from 3 skill level in any order (this is the part of the draft that will see some changes). The second part of the draft you are able to draft freely across the board.

  • Cores will be based on the same A/B/C breakdown that we used in years past. Cores must consist of only 3 A's, 3 B's, and 3 C's... Here is an example of what these rankings represent, a rank of A is considered a club level player or a regional level College player, a rank of B is considered lower level club player or college player, and C being a high school or beginning level college player. REMEMBER: Each Team of 9 players needs to have 3 A players, 3 B players, and 3 C players after the first 9 picks of the draft.

  • Teams this year will be able to create a team core and forfeit some or ALL of their picks for players in the first 9 rounds.

  • Drafting Rules: Depending on which level of players are in your core you will lose the adjacent pick… for example if I have 2 A's, 2 B's, and 1 C in my core I would lose my 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th , and 7th pick in the first round. And would have to obtain the additional ABC's that are required in the 3rd, 6th, 8th and 9th rounds.

  • When submitting a core, you need to submit a bid listing all players' names and playing history...

  • When creating your core, certain criteria will be looked upon favorably. Cores which have parity of a previous year team and/or players who will be playing the following season together in either College or High School. You must submit some proof to the Open coordinator that you will be enrolled in the same school the following year.
